Christianity - June's Website and Alzheimer's

Redeemer Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window

(Stained Glass Window from the Old Chapel in June's Redeemer Lutheran Church)

---

While the vast majority of the 305 pages and the essays on June’s web-site are directly related to June and her Journey through Alzheimer’s…or simply focused on some Alzheimer’s subject or Alzheimer’s care practice related problem. There are however, a few that include a related religious and Christian orientation. None of these few Christian religious focused pages are of a nature that is intended to be or that would be offensive to readers of a different faith. I would hope that all would view June's web site as truly Ecumenical! For every Christian oriented page there are a dozen that are not...For those readers who are looking for Christian oriented pages, I am sure you will be more then pleased with what you will find on June's website...June was a life long dedicaed Christian lady who loved her Lutheran Christian faith and lived that faith...

Home Page:  "June K. Berg, a Journey Through Alzheimer's" - June was a dedicated Christian and she practiced the love and giving themes of her religion. There is a subtle Christian background to June’s home page and can be found in the illustrated masthead of the home page…a shadowy figure can be seen crossing a bridge into the fog and in the distance a Christian Cross can be seen…This represents June’s journey into the shadows of Alzheimer’s as she is attempting to reach the faraway cross of her religion.

The home page also has a picture box link on the lower third of the page entitled “HOPE for Today with June”…this link relates to a discussion of June’s faith and a daily changed Bible verse and related thoughts for meditation with a focus on HOPE!

There is also a picture box link entitled “June K. Berg Memorials” in the lower right of June’s home page. The picture is of a grave with a Christian Cross on it. This link discusses a number of charitable programs in June’s honor and memory that are managed through the Benedictine Nursing Home and the RedeemerLutheranChurch.

Subject Category Pages and Essays - There are 305 pages and essays on June’s website…they are all arranged on drop down menus under appropriate category labels on the top navigation strips…only about 30 have a focus on June’s Christian religion…those few pages are listed below as direct links to the actual pages on June’s website for those readers who would desire to view, visit and read them…The links are organized by category as they appear on the site…simply click on the below  link of the desired title to go directly to the page and essay described.

“Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people, and those who enter shall find that they are neither unknown or unexpected.”

Bishop John Charles Ryle

 ---

“in my father’s house are many mansions:...I go to prepare a place for you...”

John 14:2 (KJV)

Bishop RyleWe need to think of our loved ones who have passed on as residing in one of God’s Mansions prepared for them by Jesus and that when they arrive they arrived as expected new residents in this Gloryland called “Heaven”.

Bishop Ryle did most of his work in the late 1800’s…he passed on to his Mansion in 1900. (The Bishop John Charles Ryle was noted as the first Anglican Bishop of Liverpool. He received his education at Christ’s Church College at Oxford University

June and I  both spent a week at Oxford University and resided in the student housing of Christ’s Church College…This was in the fall of 1984…long before June was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s

Love and Christianity

Love of God and Jesus is the core of the Christian Religion...June was a reflection of God's Love...June kept a Bible quotation from 1 Corinithians 13: 1-8 on our living room coffee table at our home at 6025 Gardena Lane...this quotation reproduced below is the Christian religion that was a center part of June's life...

June 1994

---

13-1   If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

2.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

3. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4.  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

6.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8.  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will fail, where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."

Purple AngelJune and Stan were both appointed as Purple Angel World Dementia Ambassadors  (October 2013) for the purpose of promoting world wide awareness of Alzheimer's and the dementia diseases. Such an awareness will in turn  promote funding for research to find a cure and to promote proper care practices. June was appointed an honorary Purple Angel Ambassador with Stan as her representative in order to promote her many  charitable programs that all have an Alzheimer's and dementia awareness connection. June is the only resident of Heaven to have received this honor...and who actually lives among the Angels...The Purple Angel world headquarters is in Devon, United Kingdom.

Reader's Comments

David Glesne  - Fridley, Minnesota - (1 July 2013): "This is impressive!  You have put in a lot of long hours in putting this together.  A great tribute to June...Pastor Dave."

Terry Shepherd Warsaw, indiana - (1 October 2013): "Thank you so much for sharing this."

Gill Denman  - Essex, United Kingdom - (1 October 2013): "I'm sure many people who read the pages and gain comfort from the contents are not Christians. Dementia is the great leveller, it cares nothing for race, creed, orientation or class, everyone is in it together.  You do an outstanding job, long may you continue."

Marsha McKneely Ault  - Nacogdoches, Texas - (1 October 2013): "I love the verses you shared."

Donald Hiatt  - Clovis, California - (1 October 2013): "Thank you, Stan.  A friend who is going through the Alzheimer's journey with his mom is planning to read scripture to her, and the Corinthians passage will be part of that reading...Blessings and Peace...Don."

Linda Peterson  - Portland, Maine - (13 April 2014):"I came across your website after reading an article online that was riduculously inaccurate regarding dementia. I clicked on the comments section to see what others thought and came across a comment from Stan, who thought the same, and directed readers to this website. I have only looked through a bit of it, but look forward to reading all of it. I am a physical therapist, trying to provide excellent care in a facility that sounds slightly better than the facility June was in initially. Education is the key. Thanks for your site. I look forward to reading more...Well Done."

Catherine Jones-Hatcher - Richmond, Virginia - (30 May 2015):"Touching.... For any of you dealing with Alzheimer’s or other form of dementia, this site is vast. Much info to share, and it has a human side as well.. The site is like a book. It blends science and medical info with a TRUE love story... You will be drawn in if you go here…Thank me for sharing it with you after you visit.... and God Bless you and your loved ones! “

 June's Passing

June 1994

After battling Alzheimer's for almost 12 years, an exhausted June was finally called to her heavenly home by God on October 23rd, 2008, just 16 days short of her 81st birthday. June's funeral notice as published in the Minneapolis Star in October 2008 can be seen on this website under the "In Memoriam" label - Click on:
